Community Healing Days
Community Healing Days are back!
This project has been a dream kept close to the hearts of many practitioners. The Family Care Collective (FCC) has been present since its inception with many partners including the Tiger Lotus Coop and the Queer Bodyworkers of Montreal. And now it finally has some legs!
This September we are launching a new round of monthly, by donation Community Healing Days. Community Healing Days offers both by donation, free alternative and traditional therapy. We encourage folks with low income and who face other barriers to accessing this type of healthcare to join us at our clinic location at 10 Pine West #414.
Thanks to SHIFT Concordia and the Social Transformation Fund, we have the capacity to see the project through to its full capacity.
Alongside the monthly clinic, we are consulting with participants to build a study on integrative healthcare in Quebec. In this way, CHD is a pilot project that offers a bridge between private and public healthcare models, with the goal of providing accessibility to integrated healthcare for marginalized communities. We hope to create a sustainable model, replicable throughout Montréal and beyond. We see the need to change the narrative that these therapies are only available for those who can afford them. Hands-on modalities are, after all, embedded into many cultures, and have been exclusified in today’s society, often under the guise of the “wellness” industry.
Participants will have the opportunity to discuss unmet healthcare needs and the ways that receiving affordable alternative and traditional care can impact quality of life. We have long been advocates of expanding Quebec's healthcare to include preventative therapies. And now we have a chance to prove this model.
Services include massage therapy, osteopathy, biodynamic craniosacral therapy, and other hands-on modalities (sliding scale $10-$50). We offer trauma-aware care for our clients.
In an effort to build community, a meal will be provided and shared at the end of the day, and all are welcome to join us. Invite your family!
Looking forward to seeing you!
